See, the sleaziness with women is part of the same thing: Edge figures anyone who pretends to fall for it is mostly falling for his rank, and also, if he does it in the dumbest way possible then he's not risking personal rejection for himself, just his obnoxious and atrocious pick-up lines. (I tend to think of Edge as much smarter than he looks, except when he is honour-and-valour-stupid, and also kind of intentional in his obfuscation of Self because we know, from canon, that he's totally capable of being competent and no-bullshit and hardcore (see also how he threatens Kain when Kain comes back in the Giant and Kain just looks him in the eye and accepts it, basically), but he spends all this time being a doofy idiot. And I choose to think that it's the idiot that's intentional performance and the hardcore that he's hiding, and not just shitty characterization. XD
