The wounds Agreian had inflicted had taken forever to heal, even with the most powerful Talismans he had. Maybe he was feeling his age; sleeping on the ground wasn't as comfortable as it used to be, either.

He rolled onto his side and drew back in surprise. Framed against the dawn light, he'd have sworn he saw Elaine and Reith smiling at him. Reith giggled as her outline blended into the rising sun and vanished. Elaine leaned forward to caress his cheek, her touch warm and familiar, before she too faded away.

Raul smiled and got to his feet. It was a brand new day, after all, and a whole world out there for him to wander. Who knew what he'd missed the first couple of times?

He headed east, the sun bright in his eyes.
