Summary: Joy is strange in Ellone's heart.

It is a strange feeling, this bright warmth in her chest, as she watches Squall and Rinoa take the first dance. It flutters against her ribs like hummingbird wings, light and fast. It has been so long since she could feel that simple delight, and not have it shadowed by seeing forward and back, by the weight of what is and what will be. Now, she has almost all of her family together, and her family grows.

Ellone clasps her hands tight together over her heart to hold in the joy, to keep it safe and nurture it, and smiles.

Ellone is such an underrated character. For how vital she is to the overall plot, there's an unfortunate lack of fic exploring her. This is a great start, though! I love what's mostly unsaid, the subtle hints to the hard life she's led until that point, and the spark of fleeting happiness she's hopeful to keep. Excellent stuff!
