I am pretty much an omnishipper for FF4, but this triad is one of my favourites because of the ways all the damage interacts; it is, in a lot of ways, more functional than a Cecil/Kain/Rosa triad (although I'm also very fond of that.) I love the way Kain is a great straight man for Edge, and I am fascinated by the damage and guilt around Kain/Rydia (because it's very different than the guilt and damage in Kain/Rosa) and therefore it's two great tastes that taste great together!
A lot of this grew out of some of the interaction Kain has with Edge in my massive novel that isn't yet posted (God, 177K, my life my choices etc.) in which I realized it was about half a step from flirting, and as it turned out Edge was one of Kain's best friends throughout that entire thing. I really enjoy messing with their dynamic.
