Summary: Penelo hates the snakes.
The snakes are the worst.
It's especially bad in Tchita Uplands, where they come in groups and Penelo can't keep Esuna and Curaga flowing fast enough to keep everyone on their feet. She casts frantically until she runs dry, until Fran pulls her back and takes her place to let her recover, and still the snakes never end. Basch hacks through them and takes their fangs on his shield, and Ashe rains down spells until the air is so thick with Mist that it scrapes Penelo's nerves raw, and still they come.
Even the monsters of the cave-palace are preferable.
