Summary: She hears the echoes of the past all around her.
Wordcount: 151
Beta: None
Below her, the children were talking excitedly, their voices bouncing off the empty echoing stone of Vellweb. It only highlighted the ruin that the former capital had become. She could recall a time when this city had never been quiet, when even in her tower in the dead of night she could hear the sounds of hundreds of thousands of other human beings simply going about the process of living.
She brushed her fingers over the black stone altar. They came away gritty and dirt-streaked. The fire that had once graced this tower had gone out eleven thousand years ago.
She had not thought that returning to this empty gaping shell would make her miss him so much.
"Rose?" Dart called, and she closed her eyes. Zieg was gone, and she would never see him again.
She brushed the dirt from her hands, and walked down to join the new Dragoons.
